Top 4 Summer Sun Safety Tips

Top 4 Summer Sun Safety Tips

Now that things are heating up outside, it’s important to make sure you’re taking care of your skin and protecting it from the summer sun. Here are our favorite ways to stay prepared and keep your skin glowing all the way into autumn.

Limit your time in the sun

The sun is the strongest from 10:00 AM through 4:00 PM, so try to plan to stay inside as much as possible during this period. While that’s not always realistic, it’s important to limit your exposure when possible. During this time frame opt for indoor activities (we recommend treating yourself to a chemical or facial rejuvenation).

Cover yourself

Let’s be real, sometimes you’re going to have to be outdoors, and during the summer, it’s hard to say no to a pool day or a BBQ. As long as you’re taking precautions, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy time outside. When you’re outside, make sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat when possible to cover to your face, and to seek out the shade when available. If you’re having a beach day, be sure to bring an umbrella to protect yourself and your loved ones from the detrimental UV rays.

Additionally, sun-protective clothing is a must if you’re spending excessive time outdoors. Check the tags in-store to see if your clothing is up to snuff.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen

While this one may seem obvious, applying and reapplying sunscreen is critical when it comes to sun safety. Aside from it preventing wrinkles, dark spots and sunburns, sunscreen can help prevent skin cancer, too.

There are two primary types of sunscreen, chemical and physical.

Chemical sunscreen absorbs into the skin and absorbs UV rays. If you’re the active type, this is the better choice for you. Not only do chemical sunscreens absorb into the skin quicker, but chemical sunscreens are also water-resistant, making them the ideal choice for swimmers or those who sweat easily.

Physical sunscreen, on the other hand, sits on top of the skin and reflects the sun’s rays. This type of sunscreen is ideal for those with rosacea, or sensitive skin. While physical sunscreens can be harder to blend into the skin, they tend to be more moisturizing.

At Le Reve, we offer SkinMedica SPF 30+. This excellent formula is gentle enough for post-procedure and sensitive skin and is both oil-free and fragrance-free— making it the perfect choice for daily sunscreen.

Apply Vitamin E

While it’s good to avoid spending more than 90 minutes in the sun at a time when it’s unavoidable, make sure you’re taking care of your skin after. Vitamin E is helpful to prevent age spots. Alastin skin products offer a wide array of products filled with great after-care ingredients. The restorative skin complex relies on potent antioxidants help protect the skin from further damage.
