When it comes to injectables, one of the most common questions we hear at Le Rêve Med Spa is whether you can get Botox and filler together – or if it’s better to choose one treatment over the other.
But for many patients, the better question is whether the two should be used together.
Botox® and dermal fillers are often grouped into the same category because they’re both injectable aesthetic treatments, but they don’t actually do the same job. Botox® addresses wrinkles caused by repeated facial movement, while fillers can restore volume, enhance contours, and improve facial balance.
Used thoughtfully together, they allow us to look at your face as a whole rather than treating one line or feature in isolation.
And that’s often where the most natural-looking results begin.
Botox® vs. Dermal Filler: What’s the Difference?
Think about the changes you notice in your face over time.
Some lines appear because you’ve spent years smiling, squinting, concentrating, and raising your eyebrows. Others become more noticeable as facial volume changes with age and the skin loses some of its youthful support.
Those are two different processes, which is why they often require two different approaches.
Botox® temporarily relaxes targeted muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. It’s commonly used for concerns such as forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet.
Dermal fillers, including products from the JUVÉDERM® collection, work differently. Depending on the product and treatment area, fillers can be used to restore volume, enhance features, soften certain folds, and create more definition or balance.
One smooths movement-related lines. The other works with volume and structure.
That’s what makes them such a natural pairing.
Can You Get Botox and Filler Together?
Facial aging rarely happens in just one place or for just one reason.
You might notice forehead lines at the same time that your cheeks have lost some fullness. Or perhaps you’d like subtle lip enhancement while also softening crow’s feet. Another patient may be happy with their overall appearance but want better chin or jawline definition along with treatment for frown lines.
Combining Botox® and filler allows your provider to address different concerns as part of one cohesive treatment plan.
And importantly, combining treatments doesn’t necessarily mean doing more.
In many cases, it means being more strategic.
Instead of relying heavily on one treatment to accomplish something it wasn’t designed to do, your provider can use the appropriate treatment in the appropriate area.
The goal is balance – not simply adding volume or eliminating every line.
What Areas Can Be Treated Together?
There isn’t a standard Botox-and-filler combination that works for everyone. Your treatment should depend on your facial anatomy and what you’d actually like to improve.
Some common combinations may include:
Forehead + Cheeks
Botox® can soften expression lines across the forehead while filler can help restore or enhance cheek contour.
Upper Face + Lower Face
For patients noticing changes in several areas, Botox® and filler can be used strategically across the face to create a more comprehensive result without making any one feature the focus.
Frown Lines + Chin
Treating the muscles responsible for lines between the brows can create a more relaxed appearance, while chin filler may improve projection and overall facial balance.
Crow’s Feet + Lips
Botox® may soften lines around the outer eyes while filler can subtly enhance lip shape, definition, or volume.
These are examples, not formulas. What works beautifully for one person may make no sense for another.
Can You Get Botox® and Dermal Filler at the Same Appointment?
In many cases, Botox® and dermal filler can be performed during the same appointment.
There are some practical advantages to doing so. Your provider can evaluate your facial proportions as a whole, plan how the treatments complement one another, and address multiple concerns without requiring separate visits.
However, that doesn’t mean everyone should automatically receive both treatments at once.
Depending on your anatomy, previous treatments, goals, and the areas being addressed, your provider may recommend treating everything during one visit or taking a staged approach.
A consultation helps determine which option makes the most sense for you.
Will Combining Botox® and Filler Make Me Look Overdone?
This is understandably one of the biggest concerns patients have when they first consider combining injectables.
The answer comes down largely to how the treatments are planned and performed.
Natural-looking injectable treatment isn’t about chasing every wrinkle or adding volume everywhere. It’s about understanding facial anatomy, proportions, movement, and where small adjustments can make a meaningful difference.
Sometimes that means using Botox® and filler together, while in other cases, one treatment may be all that’s needed. There may also be areas where treatment isn’t necessary at all. At Le Rêve Med Spa, our approach is to preserve your natural features while making thoughtful, subtle improvements where they can have the greatest impact. Ideally, your results should look balanced and natural rather than making it obvious that you’ve had Botox® or filler.
Why Your Injector Matters as Much as the Product
Patients often begin their research by comparing Botox®, JUVÉDERM®, and other injectable products. Product selection certainly matters, but it’s only one part of a successful treatment.
The person developing and performing your treatment plan matters just as much.
At Le Rêve Med Spa in Pasadena, injectable treatments are approached with attention to facial anatomy, proportion, movement, and your individual aesthetic goals. Rather than deciding how many syringes or units you “need” before evaluating you, we start with what you’d actually like to accomplish.
From there, we determine whether Botox®, filler, a combination of the two – or another approach entirely – makes the most sense.
